TOPIC: CHRISTIAN AND PERSECUTION James 1:12-15; 1Pt.4:12-19; Matthew 5:38-48
Persecution refers to the harassment, trouble, embarrassment and affliction a Christian suffers because of his religious beliefs.
Persecution can come from different people and in different forms. It can come from parents, siblings, fellow students, fellow Christians, teachers, community members even from the leaders.
According to Jesus, “blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”. Christians should not retaliate but endure it with happiness because the kingdom of God is for them.
Jesus has given the example to follow, when we are being persecuted. For Jesus demonstrated the highest degree of tolerance, even when he was falsely accused. He suffered but He did not complain. Therefore, Christians should also endure suffering in the face of persecution. The should not retaliate or return evil for evil.
Christians should promote orderliness, faithfulness, loyalty and patriotism and they should be law abiding.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
- Christians should not copy the bad behaviours of the unbelievers; rather they should let their own good deeds be emulated by non-believers.
- Christians should endure persecution knowing fully that crown of glory awaits them.
- There should be mutual love and understanding among the Christians brothers.
