A tally is a mark used as an aid to count a collection of data.
Example
The sizes of the shoes of primary 6 Pupils range from 4 to size 6. The class monitor records the size of each pupil (by putting a stroke in front of the corresponding size) as the pupils say their shoes sizes as follows.
