AGENTS OF CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

1. THE SCHOOL: The school setting serves as an active medium through which knowledge of citizenship education can be propagated.

2. THE FAMILY/HOME: The home or family is the first place a child learns about authority, culture, leadership and environment.

3. THE MASS MEDIA: The mass media which include the use of radio, television and the print media such as newspaper, magazines and journals also act as agent of citizenship education.

4. POLITICAL PARTIES: Political parties organize lectures, seminars, campaigns, rallies and they also produce manifestos. Through these methods, the political life of citizens is influenced.

5. THE PEER GROUP: Classmates, age mates, playmates, friends and people sharing equal status constitutes peer groups. The members have regular contacts with one another. They learn many things from one another. The group serves as a good means of citizenship education.

6. PRESSURE GROUPS: Pressure groups organize conferences, workshops, debates and enlightenment seminars. Through these avenues, the members and the general public are well informed about the country and her leadership.

NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS

It is a feeling that all of the people in a given state share important things in common. It is the ability of individual citizen to be aware of what is happening in their nation to ensure national integrity and unity.

NATIONAL INTEGRITY

Integrity is the quality of being honest and fair. National integrity means national identity or national integration. It is the unity of the nation.

NATIONAL UNITY means oneness or unity in the nation or country.
