BALANCE SHEET

The balance sheet is a statement which shows the assets of a business and its liabilities. Unlike the trading, profit and loss account, the balance sheet is not an account; it presents information as at a particular date.
Balance sheet is a statement that shows the financial position or status of an organization at the end of particular period.
CONTENTS OF A BALANCE SHEET

  1. ASSETS: These are economic resources used to generate future benefits for the organization. It is categorized into 2 for the purpose of balance sheet (a) Fixed asset (b) Current assets
  2. LIABILITIES: These are obligation or indebtedness of the business to the third party e.g. bank overdraft, bill payable, prepaid income, creditors etc.
  3. CAPITAL: These are obligation of the business to the owner. It is the amount that is used to start a business.
