BORING TOOLS

                Boring is the process of making cylindrical holes in wood. The  various tools used by wood workers to make holes in wood are Brace and Bits.

Braces; The brace is holding and turning tool for bit in other to be used for boring holes in wood.

Types of brace   ; There are two types of brace that is used by woodworkers namely, a.  Wood brace and    b. Ratchet braces.

Types of bits; The bits are the tools fixed into braces for boring of holes. the following are the various types of bits that are used by woodworkers in the workshop,,,,,,

1. Central bit,                 2.Twist bit,          3.Rose counter sink, and   4.Snail bit and Shell bit.

Bradawl; this is a tool used for boring small screw or nail holes in the wood before inserting screws.        They create small holes in the wood for easy insertion of screws and nails in wood so as to prevent splitting.

Gimlet, The gimlet is used to bore small holes in wood for easy screwing and nailing.

There are two types of gimlet, namely…….1. Twist gimlet 2. Shell gimlet.
