SOLIDS
Cuboids and Cubes
Cuboids: Consider. Match box, the shape is a cuboid
All solids have surfaces or faces. Most of them also have edges. A face may be flat (plane) or curved. A cuboid has six (6) plane faces. Each face is the shape of a rectangle.
Parts of a cuboid
An Edge: This is a line where two faces meet. A cuboid has twelve (12) straight edges.
A Vertex: This is a corner or point where three or more edges meet. A cuboid has eight (8) vertices.
Cube: This is a cuboid in which all the six faces are squares.
Step taken to draw a cuboid
Draw two square
Join corner to corner
Make the hidden edges broken
Cylinder and Prism
Cylinder: It is the shape of a coffee tin or milk tin. It has two plane faces and one curved face. It has no vertices and two curved edges. The plane faces are both circles.
Steps taken to draw a cylinder
Draw two flattened circles (eclipses)
Join the circles by two straight lines
Make the hidden edges broken lines
Prism: The base and top of a prism are always the same shape. Prisms have specific names which come from the shape of their base and top faces.. For Instance triangular prisms have their top and base to be triangles.
Cones and Pyramids
Cones: Consider a mound of rice in a bowl. The shape is a cone .It is a common shape which is usually part of a bigger object. Eg. The roof of a house is a cone shape.
Pyramids
The specific name of pyramids come from the shape of their base faces.
