Clothes are otherwise called fabrics because the thread, because the thread used to weave cloths are derived from fibres. weaving is a process of interlacing thread on a loom usually at right angles. Men use narrow horizontal loom to weave while women use wide vertical loom.
In fabric weaving, the fixed thread is called WARP while threads carried across them through the shuttle are known as WEFT
PROCESSES OF WEAVING
There are four fundamental steps in weaving;
Laying the warp thread
Separating the warp thread into two or more groups to form an opening, for the passage of the warp thread.
Passing the weft thread through the opening with a shuttle.
Pressing down the weft threads to make the interlacing of the desired pattern
TYPES OF WEAVE
Beads are important cultural and traditional materials used by our women and the custodians of our traditions i.e the chiefs, obas and obis etc.
Notable cities in Nigeria are known for beads production are Ile ife, Ilorin in Kwara state, benin in Edo state and Bida in Niger state.
MATERAILS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN BEADS PRODUCTION
1) broken bottles or glass
4) metal rod
5) wood chips
PROCESSES OF MAKING BEADS
Melt the glass or broken bottles through the furnace
Separate and pierce the lump of the molten glass with rod
Shape your beads to sizes
BEADS DESIGN PRODUCTION
Beads of assorted coours
Fishing line or thread
Needle to open up beads
Scissors to cut your thread
Bead gum(bead candle)
PROCESSES OF MAKING A NECKLACE
Cut a fairly long size thread or fish line according to the length of the product
Put three beads into the cut thread
Mix beads colours as desired until the whole length of the fish line or thread is exhausted.
Tie the fish line.
