MEANING OF ICT
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is the infrastructures and components that enable modern computing
ICT is the acquisition , processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numeric information by microelectronics based on combination of computing and telecommunication.
The modern gadgets used for the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of information include the following:
- Telephone (GSM)
- Cellular network
- Satellite Communication
- Fax machine
- Computer: This is an electronic device, which can accept data and process the data based on the instruction in its memory to produce a meaningful result as information. It can also store large amount of information.
- Telephone (GSM): GSM is the acronym for Global System for Mobile communication. The telephone is a system of transmitting sound (especially speech) to a distance by wire, radio microwave or satellite. However, the GSM telephone can transmit sound, text and pictures. That is , it is multimedia in nature.
- Cellular network: is an extended wireless LAN (Local area network). It uses the services provided by the cellular telephone service providing companies such as MTN, GLO, and so on. It is adequately fast to provide real time transmission. It is used in mobile computing.
- Satellite communication: Satellite communication makes it possible for people to make telephone calls or access the internet from almost anywhere in the world. Hence, it is used to transmit information from one part of the world to another e.g. from Nigeria to England.
