Mining is the extraction of economically valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth surface. Mining is one of the essential industries which involves both exploration and processing removal of minerals from the earth, economically and with minimum damage to the environment. Mining activities are concentrated in the areas where metallic minerals like tin, Columbite, lead, zinc, gold, iron etc.are found. Others are coal, limestone, marble and so on. The most important of all this mineral resources in Nigeria today is petbiggest It fetches the country the highest foreign exchange.Petroleum mining started in 1956 alongside natural gas. The three major oil refineries in Nigeria are at Elements (Rivers State), Ughelli (Warri)-Delta State and Kaduna State. The biggest is Kaduna refinery.
