Simple Equation Involving One or Two Operation

An equation is statement that says two quantities are equal.

Example

  a + 2 = 7 is an equation stating that ‘a + 2 is a number equal to 7’

   We know that the number we add to 2 to give 7 is 5

:.  a = 5

We say that ‘5’ is a solution of equation.

Home Work: write if the given value is the solution to the equation or not a solution:

1.  11 – x = 5; x = 6          2) – 13 = w – 5; w = 8         3)  u/3 – 3 = 9; u = 60

Topic: Question and answer

Question 1

13 + U = 17

Solution

U = 17 – 13

U = 4

Question 2

3x – 29 = 31

Solution

3x = 31 + 29

3x = 60

:. X = 60/3

:. X = 20

Home work: Find the value of the letter in each equation:

1)  13x + 15 = 106         2) 9: 6 = n: 10

3) A number is multiplied by 7 and 5 is subtracted from the product, the result is 30. Find the number
